The Mount Saint Mary College’s Spotlight Improv group ditched the script for the second time this semester, resulting in another fun, unpredictable show.
As opposed to the troupe’s previous offering which played out like an episode of Whose Line Is it Anyway?, their newest performance was more like traditional theatre – with the plot built around ideas from the audience.
While the improv show was fun for both the audience and the performers, the students are learning very valuable lessons from the experience, noted James Phillips, associate professor of Theatre.
“Improv is fun, but also very collaborative,” he said. “It forces you to make choices…art, and life in general, is a series of making choices, evaluating what worked and what didn’t, then making better choices next time. Improv forces you to do that.”
