Ann Garrido, associate professor of Homiletics at the Aquinas Institute of Theology in St. Louis, Mo., will present “Truth: The Fire in Our Bones” at Mount Saint Mary College on Tuesday, October 8 at 4 p.m.
The free, public event will take place in the Mount’s Kaplan Family Library and Learning Center, room 218.
The event is sponsored by the Catholic and Dominican Institute (CDI) as part of the college’s Founders Day celebration. Founders Day honors the Dominican Sisters who created and fostered Mount Saint Mary College.
In a turbulent election year, conversations around truth “often generate more heat than light,” explains Garrido. “What’s true? How can you tell? Does it even matter?”
When searching for truth, Garrido looks to the teachings of St. Dominic de Guzman, founder of the Dominican order – Dominicans have more than 800 years of experience wrestling with such questions. This Founders Day, come discover how Dominican insights about truth offer clarity where there is confusion and help de-escalate the tension.
In addition to her professor duties, Garrido is a regular contributor to the Dominican daily preaching site Word.OP.org. She is the author of multiple books on communicating in tough circumstances, including Let’s Talk About Truth (Ave Maria Press, 2020).
The Mount’s CDI promotes the Mount’s heritage of St. Dominic, advances the Dominican charism of study and service, provides a forum for discussion of contemporary ethical issues, and enhances Catholic and Jewish dialogue.
