Mount students serve at local Thanksgiving outreach program

Mount Saint Mary College students help distribute hundreds of pounds of food on Friday, November 15 to those in need through Newburgh’s St. Mary’s Church.

Nearly a dozen Mount Saint Mary College students donated their time and effort to a Thanksgiving community outreach program at St. Mary’s Church in Newburgh, N.Y. on Friday, November 15.

In a joint venture of the Mount’s School of Nursing and the college’s chapter of Catholic Relief Services, students distributed fresh fruit, vegetables, meat, turkeys, packaged food, toiletries, baby items, and clothing to more than 400 local families.

That same week, four Mount Nursing students also assisted with diabetes education at the Howland Library in Beacon, N.Y. in honor of Diabetes Awareness Month. The Mount students educated the youngsters during “Toddler Tales” story time at the library, using a teddy bear as a stand-in for a patient.
