More than a dozen Mount Saint Mary College students headed to New York City recently to see Trouble in Mind by Alice Childress.
The play took place in the American Airlines Theatre and was performed by the Roundabout Theatre Company.
"We are so close to [New York City] and all of the cultural events it has to offer. I want to find opportunities for students to see and experience events that they will enjoy, but that they may not seek out on their own," explained James Phillips, associate professor of Theatre. "This was a play written by an African-American author about the struggles of African-American actors and, while it was written and originally performed in the 1950s, it has a lot to say about our contemporary society."
The funding for the trip came from the Mount's Division of Arts and Letters, the college's Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP), and the President's Office.
"I want to thank all of them for their support to put a trip like this together," noted James Phillips, associate professor of Theatre.
