Mount Saint Mary College recently hosted a mental health first aid training for faculty and staff.
More than two dozen participants, all of whom have direct interaction with students, received training by Dhanu Sannesy, president of National Alliance on Mental Illness, Orange County, to recognize the signs and symptoms of a potential mental health or substance abuse challenge, and how to refer students to appropriate support and services.
After completion of the full day training, the staff and faculty received a certificate certifying them as a mental health first aid responder. The certificate is good for three years.
This training was co-sponsored by the Office of Student Affairs and the School of Nursing.
