Charles Zola, CDI director, assistant to the President for Mission Integration, and associate professor of Philosophy at Mount Saint Mary College, celebrates Founders Week with members of the Dominican Scholars of Hope and the college’s mascot, Mack the Knight.
Mount Saint Mary College celebrated the legacy of St. Dominic de Guzman and the college’s founding Dominican Sisters with its Founders Week celebration from October 3 to October 7.
The Mount holds Founders Week every year to highlight the heritage of the college through the recognition of St. Dominic and the Dominican Pillars of spirituality, study, community and service.
The college’s annual Founders Week honors the legacy of St. Dominic de Guzman and the Dominican Sisters whose vision guided the creation of the college. The college’s Catholic and Dominican Institute (CDI) has sponsored the Founders Week celebration at the college every year for more than a decade.
To highlight the impact and significance of the college’s Dominican heritage, Charles Zola, CDI director, assistant to the President for Mission Integration, and associate professor of Philosophy, put together an array of presentations, activities, and events for the college community to enjoy.
Part of the celebration was a talk on how Black Catholic nuns fought racism from guest speaker Shannen Williams, a Bingo event hosted by the college’s Dominican Scholars of Hope, and the Founders Week Reception that consisted of interactive activities for faculty, staff, and students.
Jon Damru, Access and Outreach Services Librarian, presented The Saint John’s Bible: Word of God and Work of Art on Wednesday, October 5. The Saint John’s Bible is the first hand-written Bible in centuries. Mount Saint Mary College owns a copy of the Heritage Edition of the Bible, one of only 299 full-size fine art reproduction copies in the world, and members of the Mount community enjoyed access to the seven-volume set during the event.
