Mount Saint Mary College KDP members deliver about 1,000 donations to the Highland New York American Legion, to be sent to victims of Hurricane Helene. (Social Media Manager and Vice President); Emily Casale of Staten Island, N.Y. (co-membership chair), and Katerina Calderone of Marlboro, N.Y. (treasurer).

With students, faculty, and staff assisting in their efforts, Mount Saint Mary College’s Sigma Tau Chapter 451 of the Kappa Delta Pi (KDP) honor society recently donated approximately 1,000 items – including clothing, toiletries, school supplies, canned goods, and more – to assist victims of Hurricane Helene.

The items, including a dozen large bags full of clothing, were collected in only 10 days and dropped off by KDP members to the Highland New York American Legion on Sunday, October 27. The donations will be sent to the hardest hit disaster areas.

“We got a far bigger turnout than we expected,” said Katerina Calderone of Marlboro, N.Y., KDP treasurer, who spearheaded the effort. “We’re all so happy we could help when it was needed most.”

The Mount’s KDP is dedicated to service-learning in the local community. It promotes excellence in, and recognizes outstanding contributions to, the field of education. The society endeavors to maintain a high degree of professional fellowship among its members, quicken professional growth, and honor achievement in educational work.
