The Mount Saint Mary College’s Spotlight Improv group will present their take on the popular TV show Whose Line Is It Anyway? on Wednesday, October 30.
The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Aquinas Hall Theatre, 330 Powell Ave., Newburgh, N.Y. Admission is $5, or free with a Mount ID. Seating is limited to 60, so reservations are required. For tickets, call the box office at 845-569-3273.
Two teams of four students will take each other on in an improv contest over the course of about an hour, and Just like Whose Line Is It Anyway?, everything is made up and the points don’t matter. Viewers can expect a fast, silly performance with chances for audience participation.
While the improv show promises to be fun for both the audience and the performers, the students are learning very valuable lessons from the experience, noted James Phillips, associate professor of Theatre.
“Improv is fun, but also very collaborative,” he said. “It forces you to make choices…art, and life in general, is a series of making choices, evaluating what worked and what didn’t, then making better choices next time. Improv forces you to do that.”
The show will feature a mix of six Mount students and two alumni.
