The Mount Saint Mary College’s Spotlight Improv group will present their second show of the semester – and a chance to win a free turkey – on Wednesday, November 20.
The performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the Aquinas Hall Theatre, 330 Powell Ave., Newburgh, N.Y. Admission is $5, or free with a Mount ID. Seating is limited to 60, so reservations are required. For tickets, call the box office at 845-569-3273.
As opposed to the troupe’s previous show which played out like an episode of Whose Line Is it Anyway?, this newest performance will be more like traditional theatre – with the plot built around ideas from the audience.
Those in attendance will also have a chance to win a free turkey, just in time for Thanksgiving.
While the improv show promises to be fun for both the audience and the performers, the students are learning very valuable lessons from the experience, noted James Phillips, associate professor of Theatre.
“Improv is fun, but also very collaborative,” he said. “It forces you to make choices…art, and life in general, is a series of making choices, evaluating what worked and what didn’t, then making better choices next time. Improv forces you to do that.”
