Mount Saint Mary College’s Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program (CSTEP) and the Drone Cadets company in Middletown, N.Y. recently hosted a drone education workshop for Newburgh Free Academy students.
More than 20 NFA West students participated in the workshop, which was coordinated by Lakeya Stukes, NFA West School Counselor; Grace Vazquez, CSTEP program coordinator; and the CSTEP Student Leadership Team.
The workshop was a timely one, noted Vazquez: The importance of drones and their purposes have become more prevalent in recent years. Drones are used for everything from military operations to delivering Amazon packages to customer’s doorsteps. This has created the demand for drone pilots and related educational programs.
The Mount’s CSTEP works to increase the number of underrepresented students who possess strong academic and personal potential to pursue careers in mathematics, science, technology, health-related fields, or a licensed profession.
Drone Cadets is an educational program that provides opportunities for students to learn about careers in drones and allows them to experience flying them.
