Lawrence T. Force, gerontologist and professor of Psychology at Mount Saint Mary College, introduced a recent screening of the film Lives Well Lived: Celebrating the Secrets, Wit and Wisdom of Age by discussing the changing landscape of aging and eldercare.

Force discussed how society can begin “reframing the way aging looks,” He added, “The fact is, 60 is not considered old anymore.”

Force also discussed the changing face of caregiving. Many people could learn to become eldercare givers, and many more can help through their current vocations.

“Think about the person who does the pizza delivery. Think about the people at the post office. Think about our college students,” he said. “These are people that could be very much involved and be present for you as you try to age successfully in the community.”

Force, a professor of Psychology at Mount Saint Mary College, has worked in the field of aging and disabilities for more than three decades as an administrator, clinician, and educator. Force and his fellow Social Sciences professor, Jeffrey Kahana, are co-directors of the Center on Aging and Disability Policy at Mount Saint Mary College. Established in 2006, CADP promotes an interdisciplinary perspective dedicated to excellence in research and scholarship in the fields of gerontology and disability studies.

Lives Well Lived celebrates the incredible wit, wisdom, and experiences of people aged 75 to 100.

The screening, held on the Mount campus, was an initiative by the Community Education Program at the Mount’s Desmond Campus.
