Mount Saint Mary College is proud to announce a new articulation program in partnership with Touro College of Pharmacy, which will allow students to earn a Doctor of Pharmacy degree in just seven years.

This 3+4 program will yield a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Mount Saint Mary College and a Doctor of Pharmacy from Touro College. Mount students will begin their first year of the Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree following completion of their junior year at the Mount. Biology students who are admitted to Touro College will earn the bachelor’s degree after completing their first year at Touro.

“Pharmaceutical studies open exciting career avenues for our students. This pathway program also provides a money and timesaving opportunity, as students not only complete the doctoral degree within seven years, rather than eight, but also enter sooner into the workforce,” said Dr. George Abaunza, Vice President for Academic Affairs. Abaunza worked with colleagues in the Mount’s Natural Sciences Division to establish this program between the Mount and Touro College.

Beyond the biological and chemical sciences, pharmacists need a steady grasp of mathematics, communication, psychology, and more, which students in this program will begin learning at Mount. The college’s small class sizes and personalized education opportunities will get students started on the path to success. In addition, like all Mount Biology majors, students in this program will benefit from opportunities for applied research with professors, fostering real world training.

With a bachelor’s degree in Biology and a doctoral degree in Pharmacy, students will be able to select a number of career paths. While many pharmacists choose to work in retail pharmacies, the possibilities for this degree also include teaching, researching, drug development, working in private or government labs, and more.

The Mount has also partnered with Touro College to offer a 3+4 pathway program in Osteopathic Medicine. Students who complete this program will earn a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Mount Saint Mary College and a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine. Osteopathic physicians (DOs), like their allopathic counterparts (MDs), practice in all areas of medicine, but receive additional specialized training during medical school in treating the musculoskeletal system (bones, muscles, and nerves) using a holistic approach.
