Mount Nursing students help stuff 150 Christmas stockings for local youths

Students from Mount Saint Mary College’s School of Nursing teamed up with members of the Keep It Moving origination to make the holidays a little brighter for local children.

The group put together and donated about 150 stockings containing toys and hygiene products.

“One of our missions is to bring a little holiday joy to underserved kids in the Newburgh district,” explained Lauren Mandel of Keep It Moving.

Keep It Moving is a volunteer organization that provides young people with the opportunity to engage in healthy, life affirming activities. It was formed in honor of Mandel’s son, Zane, who passed away from a drug overdose. The organization has partnered with the Mount’s School of Nursing to host training sessions for the administration of naloxone, an anti-opioid overdose medicine. To date, more than 200 students and faculty have been certified in the use of the medicine.

Mount Nursing students enjoy state-of-the-art simulation labs and clinical relationships with more than 40 area hospitals. The Mount’s passionate faculty are dedicated to the success of both their undergraduate and graduate students.
