Mount Saint Mary College's School of Business will offer a new Sports Management major starting this fall.
The Sports Management major, also available as a concentration for Business majors at the Mount, will prepare students for a wide variety of professional opportunities in the sports industry.
Scott Russell, assistant professor of Sports Management at the Mount, is excited to be offering Sports Management as a major, giving even more Mount graduates the opportunity to land exciting new jobs in the field.
"Sports marketing, coaching, athletic director, sports agent, sports journalist, strength and conditioning trainer – these are just a few of the more traditional career paths our graduates have followed," noted Russell.
The major provides a unique focus on both business and the sports industry, while stressing the importance of ethical awareness for future leaders within the sports management field.
"Our campus is also in close proximity to an amazing number of sports businesses, from professional franchises in New York City (Yankees, Giants, Nets, Islanders, etc.), to industry leaders like ESPN (Bristol, Conn), hundreds of collegiate athletic programs, and thousands of smaller private businesses that service the needs of athletes from youth leagues to the major leagues," Russell explained.
The Sports Management curriculum is designed to offer training in business management and administration by providing a sequence of specialized instruction in management, marketing, finance, economics, business law, and accounting. Students will be prepared to take on careers in diverse organizations and to further their education with graduate studies.
