Mount Saint Mary College senior Dane Fiorito from Fishkill, N.Y., recently received the college’s Sr. Anita Rosaire Fay and Dr. Hedwig Just Award for the most outstanding Senior History Major.
Among other accomplishments, Fiorito has been named to the Mount’s Dean’s List several times and was recently inducted into Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society.
Fiorito said he felt an incredible sense of validation upon receiving the award. He also noted how the recognition instilled in him a sense of readiness for a teaching role in the future.
He said that Linda Gilmartin, adjunct Instructor of Education, was an invaluable mentor. Additionally, he praised his advisor, Michael McGuire, assistant professor of History and Political Science, for his guidance and support.
Fiorito expressed his gratitude for the friendships forged during his time at the Mount. These friendships are what he will miss the most after he graduates from the Mount on Saturday, May 18.
