Mount Saint Mary College Business student Victoria Veloz-Vicioso of Englewood, N.J. recently earned the prestigious Dr. Ervin “Vinny” Caraballo Scholarship from the Hispanic Alliance for Career Enhancement (HACE).
Veloz-Vicioso was one of just 20 recipients of the scholarship, which is awarded to Latinx college students who have the passion and determination to further their education and involve themselves in their local community. Caraballo, a former board member, was a driving force in HACE’s programming and embodied the organization’s mission. In 2017, HACE established a scholarship in his honor.
As part of the scholarship, Veloz-Vicioso attended a two-day HACE leadership development summit in Chicago just weeks before graduating. She served as one of the keynote speakers at the event’s gala.
“I proudly represented the Mount and it was truly a transformational event,” Veloz-Vicioso explained. “I even had the chance to connect with several executives, VPs, and directors from renowned companies such as NBCUniversal, McDonald’s, JP Morgan Chase, Under Armour, and more.”
Veloz-Vicioso graduated from the Mount in May 2023 with Magna Cum Laude honors. In her speech to her fellow graduates, she urged the newly-minted Mount alumni to remember the people who helped to mold them into the successful people they are today.
“Written in invisible ink underneath your name on your diploma are the names of the people who helped you get here today,” she said. “As we celebrate this momentous occasion, let us take a moment to express our deepest gratitude to those who have been instrumental in our journey through college.”
Veloz-Vicioso will be returning to the Mount to complete her Master’s in Business Administration in the Fall 2023 semester and is scheduled to graduate with the MBA in 2024.
