Mount Saint Mary College celebrated Ash Wednesday on March 5 with Masses in the Chapel of the Most Holy Rosary and ash distribution services around campus.

Students, faculty, and staff from both the Mount and Bishop Dunn Memorial School received ashes from Fr. Gregoire Fluet, Vice President for Mission and Ministry and campus chaplain.

Ash Wednesday marks the start of the holy season of Lent for many Christians. It lasts for the 40 days leading up to Easter.

The night before, Sean Ocasio of Monroe, N.Y. and Melissa Diaz of Middletown, N.Y., members of the college’s Dominican Scholars of Hope (DSH), set up the Lenten Cross outside of the chapel. A living and learning community for highly motivated Mount students, DSH is rooted in the Dominican heritage of the college.
