Vivian Milczarski was recently named director of the Kaplan Family Library and Learning Center at Mount Saint Mary College.
"I am grateful to have the opportunity to serve as the director of the Kaplan Family Library and Learning Center," said Milczarski. "I have been so fortunate to work at the Mount for almost 20 years, and I look forward to continuing to cultivate a tradition of excellence in the library and to serve our students, faculty, and staff."
In addition to the library serving as a central hub for the Mount community's research and scholarship, Milczarski's vision is to ensure that it also "offers programs that foster conversations, engage and inform our community, and have a positive impact on the campus culture," she explained.
Milczarski joined the college in 2001 as a reference librarian and later became a librarian for Collection Development. She was appointed interim library director several months ago, and as of July 1, 2021, Milczarski began serving as the Kaplan Library's director.
"Because of Vivian's extensive professional experience, familiarity with the culture at the Mount, and established relationships across campus, she is uniquely qualified to lead the library in exciting new directions," said George Abaunza, vice president for Academic Affairs.
Prior to arriving at the Mount, Milczarski had experience working in several different libraries, including Cornwall Public Library, the U.S. EPA Region 2 Library in New York City, and the National Small Business Development Center Research Network in Albany, N.Y.
The former director of the Kaplan Family Library and Learning Center, Barbara Petruzzelli, was recently named assistant vice president for Academic Affairs (AVPAA). As AVPAA, Petruzzelli assists in providing guidance and leadership to the Mount's academic community.
