Shane Bell, director of Athletics at Mount Saint Mary College, announced that Justin Lorenzo has been named head coach of the Men’s Lacrosse program.
Lorenzo had previously served as assistant coach and took over as Interim Head Coach in September of 2023.
“We are thrilled to elevate Justin Lorenzo to be our permanent Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach,” said Bell. “Since taking over as the Interim Head Coach, Justin has showed an unparalleled commitment and dedication which has been palpable throughout the program. The team continued to get better each game and we were playing our best lacrosse at the end of the season. I have no doubt that Justin is going to take the Men’s Lacrosse program to new heights and we can't wait to be a part of the journey. The future is bright for the Knights.”
When he began as Interim Head Coach, Lorenzo immediately made a significant impact on the program. He not only fielded a team, but began building a program and developing a culture led by the upper classmen. He also brought in trusted colleague Mark Colella as his assistant coach. Colella was a standout player at Post University who would focus on coaching the offense.
The team’s progress was evident throughout the season, as they developed a cohesive playing style and strong team culture.
“In our first team meeting back in September, we had 13 guys back. Without those guys sticking it out, we wouldn’t have had a season,” said Lorenzo. “A huge thank you to them and the guys who joined us.”
Lorenzo acknowledged the dedication of his players, stating, “I’m particularly grateful to my players from this past season. Their dedication and hard work have been and will continue to be instrumental in our success as this program grows.”
Looking ahead, Lorenzo has ambitious goals for the program.
“My objective is to position this program as consistent contenders in our conference over the next few seasons and eventually in the NCAA tournament,” he explained. “Off the field, it’s important to me to build a program that has a lasting relationship with its local community and alumni.”
He added, “I’m excited at the prospects that lie ahead for this program.”
In addition to his work at the Mount, Lorenzo has coached various club teams, including the O2 Lacrosse Club, Hudson Valley Express, and Mad Dog North, as well as at Goshen High School. He played goalie for the Franklin Pierce DII program for four years and graduated in 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts in History.
