There are many times in life when makeup is truly a life saver, and college is definitely full of those times. Whether it is going out with friends, presenting in front of your class, or simply just wanting to look extra nice one day, makeup is a great thing to have around. The big question that comes with this though is: What makeup do you bring or get for college? With so many different types of makeup and brands out there, it can be super overwhelming trying to decide what to buy. So here are some different types of makeup and brands that I suggest you bring for that perfect college look:
- Eyeshadow Palettes
Eyeshadow is the perfect piece of makeup to give your eyes that nice little pop of color. You want to make sure that you bring palettes with colors that can be used for during the day and evening. Personally, I use matte neutral tones for a subtle look during the day, and shimmer shades for evening looks. The palettes I use and suggest giving a try are:
- Kat Von D’s Shade + Light Eye Contour Palette (for the day time look)
- Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette (for that transition into a nighttime look)
*Tips for when you apply the makeup: Combine your palettes for different combos of colors to create different looks. Use fluffier brushes to blend and use thinner brushes for detail.
- Lip Products
Adding a little bit of color to your lips can really tie together your whole look. An important thing to remember before you start doing your lips is to always make sure your lips are moisturized and prepped for when you apply lipstick! So make sure you have some type of chapstick or lip balm. The chapstick I prefer to use is Maybelline’s Baby Lips.
As for lipstick, I’d stick to the rule of having something to wear during the day and something for the evening. Personally, I love nude pink matte lipstick as my go to lip product. Some of my favorite shades are:
- “Cool Girl” (Nude Lipstick from Too Faced’s Melted Matte Collection)
- “Sell Out” (Deep Pink Lipstick from Too Faced’s Melted Matte Collection)
*Another lip product to bring is a lip gloss, to make any matte lip or bare lip pop!
- Foundation/Skin Products
Foundation ultimately comes down to personal preference and what kind of skin type you have. Having a lightweight foundation that’s paired with a concealer can give you that glowing look for the day! Pack a mini-blush or bronzer to give yourself a bit of pigment as well. Also, a highlighter is a great way to add subtle, yet effective definition to your cheekbones to make them POP! My favorite brand of highlight to use is:
*Don’t forget to have a beauty blender/foundation brush to use when you apply the makeup to your face.
- Brows/Liner
Give your eyes some definition with some eyeliner. A liquid or gel liner should do just fine. For your brows, a pomade paired with an angle brush is perfect for obtaining beautiful brows.
- Final Touches
Lastly, to lock in your makeup for a long day, a translucent powder and setting spray are a surefire combination to keep your makeup on all day.
A lot of these products range from high end to low end, but you don’t have to spend a tremendous amount of money on makeup! There are a lot of “dupes” or products that can be compared to high-end that are more affordable. Don’t forget, makeup is an art form that is based off of personal preference, as well as trial and error. So don’t be afraid to be adventurous with your style!
