The Mount is blessed to be located in the historic and beautiful Hudson Valley with plenty to do and see. When they’re not busy studying or participating in on-campus events, our students can always find something to pique their interest in the local area. We asked some Mount students where their favorite places to go off-campus were, and here are their answers:
Binnacle Books – Derek O’Hanlon ’19
A quaint bookstore located in Beacon, NY featuring new and used books. Just 1.4 miles from campus!
Target – Kaitlyn Barber ’21 and Carmel Lozada ’20
Who doesn’t enjoy a good Target run? Thankfully, there’s a Target (along with many other essential stores) located along Route 17-K in Newburgh 4 miles from campus). Plus, the MSMC Shuttle will take you there for free 3 days a week!
Tarsio Lanes – Giselle Martinez ’20 and Diamond Umunna ’21
Who’s ready for some friendly competition? This bowling alley is just 3.5 miles from campus and always a great spot for Mount students, especially since they accept Mount Money!
Main Street, Beacon – Kayla O’Connor ’19 and Mikayla Zaccaria ’19
Looking for a place to spend the afternoon? Main Street in Beacon, NY (just across the Neburgh-Beacon bridge) features quaint shops, coffee houses, and more. 5 miles from campus.
Cold Spring, NY – Kiara Algarin ’21
For a day trip, consider visiting Cold Spring! Main Street offers a variety of shops and restaurants, as well as a waterfront scenic lookout. 12.5 miles from campus.
Park or museum – Andrew Suleiman ’18
Newburgh is home to several beautiful parks and historic places, including Downing Park (just 0.8 miles from campus!) and Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site (1.2 miles from campus). There’s something for everyone!
