We love hearing about all of the reasons our students end up choosing the Mount! Here is why one of the members of the Class of 2021 decided to become a Knight:
“When I was starting to look for colleges to apply to, I really wanted to stay close to home and have a small class size. I was having trouble finding a school that fit this criteria, however.
Then, in high school, I was part of a a class that pushed students to discover a new passion and make a project based on that passion. While taking this course, there was an eight-page essay that needed to be written, and Mount Saint Mary College graciously allowed us to use their library database. While researching for the paper, we were also given a tour of the campus, and I knew this was where I belonged. Everyone was very nice, from the teachers and staff to the students we saw walking from class to class. Plus, the campus is beautiful and right by the Hudson River.
The beautiful scenery and friendly staff were enough for me to send in an application after the tour. Fortunately, Mount Saint Mary College is only a 45-minute drive from my home, and many other students from my high school were attending as well. The college has also been extremely helpful with transitioning from high school. They pick your first semester classes for you, so you can focus on transitioning and getting to know the college.
Going in for Psychology, I was worried about fitting in, as a lot of students major in Nursing. However, when I started last fall, I saw this wasn’t the case. The school takes pride in all of their majors, from Nursing to Business to Psychology. They offer many student activities so you won’t be cooped up in classrooms all day, and the classes are small so you get to know people quickly. All of these things helped me figure out that this was the best college for me, and that this is where I needed to go.
Mount Saint Mary College also helps you become more independent. You have to do your own laundry, prepare some meals, and even make appointments by yourself. The fact that your parents couldn’t call and make appointments for you was extremely helpful for me. It helped me grow and learn to socialize in a more serious environment.
I hope my story on why I picked Mount Saint Mary College helps you with your decision on where to spend your next four years. I also hope you decide to join the Mount family, because that’s what the school is – one big family. This college was a perfect fit for me, and I’m sure it will be a perfect fit for you, too.”
