This course will touch on some of the prevailing ideas of the
nature of life in the early 19th century and how this contrasted
with the new ideas of evolution. We will trace the early
development of Darwin’s Theory during his four-year voyage on the
Beagle, collecting data from around the world. We will examine the
evidence for evolution: geological evolution, the fossil record,
embryology, biochemistry, and genetics. We will also examine the
theories for the origin of life and trace how life changed from
single cell to multi-cellular organisms and the evolution of
man.
