Admissions Counselor

The Enrollment Management unit is seeking a full-time Admissions Counselor. Reporting to the Director of Admissions, the Admissions Counselor is a twelve-month position with paid vacation and benefits.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop an in-depth knowledge base about the College and its academic and extracurricular programs and articulate these programs in a manner consistent with the College's strategic plan to prospective students, their families, guidance counselors & the community.
  • Recruit prospective students by conducting high school visits and attending college fairs in selected territory; cultivate selected territory by developing relationships with guidance and college counselors and by increasing application and deposit activity; provide regular territory analysis and feedback.
  • Assist with the daily operations of the Office of Admissions through daily admission presentations, interviews, on/off campus admission events, Open Houses and Accepted Student Receptions as well as email, social media and phone call campaigns. Regular evening and weekend work are required.
  • Meet application through enrollment targets by assisting with the completion, review and conversion of applications for designated territory; review applications for admission in a timely fashion.
  • Liaise with various offices throughout the College.
  • Develop and foster relationships with MSMC alumni within assigned territories.
  • Maintain a variety of manual and computerized files including travel and student records.
  • Performs other duties as required to meet organizational needs and goals.

Qualifications include:

  • A bachelor’s degree with a minimum of six to twelve month experience in recruitment, public relations, marketing or a related field, preferably in a college or university setting.
  • A demonstrated commitment to the values and goals of a private liberal arts college.
  • Excellent written, verbal and public communication/ presentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, faculty and staff.
  • Must be organized and an effective time manager with strong attention to detail and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Possess a positive attitude and an ability to be innovative.
  • Strong work ethic with a high degree of professionalism.
  • A valid driver’s license. Candidates must be willing to travel extensively.

Working Conditions: Multi-tasked, goal and deadline driven environment. Overnight travel anywhere in the United States, evening and some weekend hours will be required throughout the year. Extensive sitting, walking, and lifting may be required throughout the year.

Registrar Support Clerk

Mount Saint Mary College is accepting applications for a full-time Registrar Support Clerk. Qualified candidates will meet the following responsibilities and requirements:

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Evaluate transfer students’ transcripts/credentials and provide information to incoming transfer students and advisors.
  2. Maintain and update student information in Jenzabar.
  3. Enforce academic regulations and policies as well as applicable state and federal guidelines.
  4. Comply with FERPA regulations in all office activities and communicate regulations and monitor campus community compliance.
  5. Assist in the daily operations of the Registrar’s office to include but not limited to maintaining accurate, up-to-date student records, validating academic information, answering and responding to phone and email inquiries, greeting and attending to office visitors, processing incoming and outgoing mail, etc.
  6. Provide a high level of customer service.
  7. Assist with the development and updating of documentation for procedures, and system management including policies, procedures and standards.
  8. Collect and ensure that all required materials for student meetings are available for review.
  9. Perform all other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. Bachelor’s degree and previous experience in an academic office preferred.

Business Teaching Positions Available

The Business Division of Mount Saint Mary College has need of adjunct faculty to teach courses within the division. Areas of need include accounting (including computer applications in accounting), business law, economics, electronic commerce, finance, international business and marketing, logistics and supply chain management, labor relations and human resource management, organizational behavior, MIS, retail marketing, and sports management. Classes are offered both during the daytime in a traditional semester format and in the evenings in an accelerated format.

Qualifications include a graduate degree in a business-related field, including the JD, and (preferably) five or more years experience in work directly related to the area of teaching. Prior collegiate teaching experience, including on-line teaching, will be considered a plus.

Distance Education Graduate Assistant: Copyeditor

The position in the Office of Distance Education supports the advancement of the hybrid online programs in Mount Saint Mary College’s adult accelerated degree program. Reporting to the Director of Distance Education, this staff member works in a team environment alongside the instructional designer, instructional technologist, multimedia graduate assistant, and project assistant to copyedit courses during times of course development and revision.

Extensive training will be provided to the Graduate Assistant, whose responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Copyediting all text within the course for spelling, grammar, and consistency of terms, as well as formatting errors, consistency of formatting, and ensuring links are functional and consistent.
  • Creating course shells and maintaining the course template within eClass.
  • Completing/confirming course back-ups.
  • Bringing course resources into eClass and/or organizing within eClass (such as scanning printed documents into PDF formats).
  • Following up with minor revisions made by instructors in previous versions of the course.
  • Creating activities in eClass (quizzes, discussion forums, etc.)
  • Working with instructional designer and faculty to ensure all components are deployed and in the correct format.

Time management skills, excellent reading and writing skills, attention to detail, and a willingness to work in a team environment required. Acquaintance with eClass is ideal, as well as familiarity with MLA and APA citation styles. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) is essential, as well as an openness to learning new technologies. Students holding a bachelor’s degree in English or Language Arts are highly preferred.

Hiring is contingent upon acceptance into one of the MSMC graduate programs. Compensation includes graduate tuition remission at MSMC (12 credits annually) and a monthly stipend. Housing is not included.

Student Activities Graduate Assistant

The position in Student Development supports the advancement of Student Activities and Student Development at Mount Saint Mary College. Reporting to the director and assistant director of Student Activities, this staff member works to address the needs of the students as well as the college community.

Candidate will plan, organize and implement major student/college sponsored events such as Orientation, Opening Weekend, Bonfire, Alumni/Family Weekend, Mount Olympics, etc. He/she works with the Student Government Association and must have the ability to generate enthusiasm and commitment in students, faculty, staff, and administrators.

Academic Coach

Center for Student Success

The College seeks an academic coach for the MSMC Center for Student Success (CSS). The CSS provides a full array of academic and personal supports – including advising and mentoring – to ensure that all students have the opportunity to flourish at the college, particularly through their first year.

Candidates seeking this position should possess: a master’s degree in a related field; an understanding of student retention theory and best practices; experience providing proactive or intrusive advising support; a clear understanding of the variety of challenges facing college students today; evidence of ability to engage, motivate and instruct students at the college level; strong written and verbal communication skills; and, a demonstrated ability to develop mentoring relationships with a diverse student population.

Responsibilities include:

  • High-volume proactive advising, in the form of intrusive student outreach (via email, telephone and face-to-face follow-up)
  • Academic coaching based on a proactive, strengths-based advisement model
  • Presenting workshops on study-skills, time-management, goal-setting, etc.
  • Monitoring student progress, maintaining records, and generating evaluative data for departmental reports.
  • Maintaining a current understanding of all college academic policies and procedures which might inform student academic progress.
  • Public speaking on behalf of the CSS at College open houses or similar functions.
  • Cultivating and strengthening relationships with other departments across campus in an effort to better serve students.
  • Reflection, professional development, and continuous learning.

Custodial Services Supervisor

Mount Saint Mary College is seeking candidates to fill the position of Custodial Services Supervisor.  Qualified candidates will meet the following responsibilities and requirements:

PRIMARY  RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Manage the hiring, training, development and supervision of custodial department staff.
  2. Interface with other department heads and administrators to determine specific, non-routine custodial needs.
  3. Schedule all regular cleaning and special cleaning projects.
  4. Conduct regular inspections of facilities to ensure consistent satisfactory appearance and submit work orders to correct deficiencies.
  5. Select and maintain an inventory of necessary supplies and equipment as permitted by college purchasing policies.
  6. Organize and manage the set-up and breakdown of special functions to include the movement and arrangement of tables, chairs, risers and any other furniture and/or related items needed for the function. Meet with and coordinate with internal departments on campus to ensure that all requirements for events are communicated and properly executed.
  7. Communicate regularly with the assistant director of Facilities concerns or information the assistant director may need to know.
  8. Attend and assist as needed at College events occurring during evenings and/or on weekends.
  9. Perform other related duties as assigned.

  1. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  2. Experience managing housekeeping and custodial services in commercial building settings.

Executive Director of Online and Adult Learning

Mount Saint Mary College is seeking an experienced and innovative leader to assume the newly-created position of executive director of Online and Adult Learning. Reporting to the Office of Academic Affairs, the person in this role will:

  • Oversee the daily operations of the Office of Online and Adult Learning.
  • Supervise the staff of two reporting units.
  • Develop and manage the operating budgets for Online Learning and Adult and Continuing Education.
  • Oversee the development of new courses/programs offered through both Adult and Continuing Education and Online Learning, as well as academic programs that combine face-to-face and online learning.
  • Work with the director of Online Learning to identify appropriate technologies to support online curricula.
  • Recommend College policies governing both online and adult learning programs.
  • Advise in the development of recruiting and marketing materials for online and continuing education programs.
  • Recommend and cooperate in the development and implementation of online administrative and educational support services such as library services, admissions, registration, and financial aid for distance education students.
  • Develop and implement assessment of academic courses/programs offered through Online Learning and Adult and Continuing Education, and work with the academic divisions to undertake assessment-based program and curricular revision.
  • Communicate and work with division, Online, and Continuing Education personnel regarding faculty, anticipated courses, course scheduling, seminars, conferences, and instructional design.
  • Develop and maintain the accreditations and NYS approvals required for the College’s Online and Adult/Continuing Education programs.
  • Advise students, as necessary.
  • In collaboration with academic division chairs, the director of Online Learning and the director of Adult and Continuing Education oversee the identification and recruitment of high-quality adjunct instructors, to ensure complete coverage of projected courses over the course of the academic year.
  • Assume other duties, as identified by the vice president for Academic Affairs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • PhD, EdD, or appropriate terminal degree preferred; master's degree required.
  • Experience teaching adult students.
  • Experience in online learning, as either an instructor or a student.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Experience managing budgets.
  • Practical experience with program assessment.
