Mount Saint Mary College offers the Reserves Officers Training
Corps (ROTC) program. Students currently take the ROTC classes at
Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY, though we expect to offer
classes at the Mount in the future.
What is ROTC?
It is a four-year leadership internship with
guaranteed employment for all students/cadets that complete
the program and meet the standards.
Starting pay for an active duty officer is $55,000. After
five years it rises to $84,000. After 10 years it rises
to $105,000. After 20 years, your annual retirement pay will
be $45,000 with medical and dental benefits for you and your
spouse for the rest of your lives, and for your children until
they turn 23 years of age.
Scholar, Athlete and Leaders
A military officer must be a scholar, athlete and leader
(SAL). We commission SALs, and only SALs. Cadets must have the
“full package,” and be accomplished and competent in all three
areas.
Cadets compete on their own merits and accomplishments against
over 4,000 other cadets commissioning in that same “cohort” year
group.
Grades, Leadership Evaluations and Physical Fitness scores
determine the Order of Merit List (OML). This is how cadets compete
for Branch, Post, Grad
School, Component, Active Duty, National Guard,
Reserves.
