Soc 1010: Introduction to Sociology
Bio
Professor Bussigel's career has focused on both teaching and
research. She enjoys helping students acquire the skill of applying
sociological perspectives to understanding the world around
them.
Professor Bussigel has also engaged in research which has a
clear connection to pedagogy. She recently completed a project,
funded by the Department of Social Services, evaluating an
innovative approach to providing services for victims of domestic
violence. A follow-up project, to begin next year, will focus on
the identification of goals by providers of services to domestic
violence victims.
Professor Bussigel is currently working on a research project on
the causes of homelessness and the outcomes of services targeting
the homeless population. All of her research is collaborative, and
provides students in the division with an opportunity to gain
significant research experience.
Her educational experiences – degrees in anthropology, regional
planning and educational planning – have led her to a focus on
innovation and social planning. Professor Bussigel's doctoral
dissertation, supported by a Fulbright Fellowship, examined the
community response to a major re-structuring of secondary education
in Hessen, Germany. She also completed an analysis of innovations
in U.S. medical education while working at the Center for
Educational Development at the University of Illinois Medical
School.
