The Rev. Dr. Glenn I. Henricksen presented the 2012 Annual
Steinthal Lecture at Mount Saint Mary College: Susan and
Anna Warner of Constitution Island: The faith of two 19th century
women and its meaning for today.
Dr. Henricksen was born in Seattle, Washington. He spent his
grade school years on Lookout Mountain, Tennessee, and his high
school and college years in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He obtained
the BS in chemistry from Carnegie-Mellon University. He received
master of theology degrees from The Biblical Seminary in New York
and Princeton Theological Seminary. He earned a PhD degree from New
York University in religious studies. He was ordained as a
Presbyterian minister in 1961.
Dr. Henricksen has served several churches as pastor, assistant
pastor, and supply pastor. He was assistant professor of religious
studies at Mount Saint Mary College, taught science and chemistry
at Mount Saint Mary High School, and served for 18 years as
Protestant chaplain at the Letchworth Village Developmental
center.
In retirement Dr. Henricksen sings with the Golden Age Singers
of Poughkeepsie and preaches where needed throughout the lower
Hudson Valley. He and his wife, Jennie, reside in the Town of
Newburgh. They have four children and five grandchildren.
History of the Steinthal Lecture
series:
The Steinthal Lecture, established in memory of Dr. Eric
Steinthal, was funded by his son, Nicholas. The senior Steinthal
was a noted Newburgh physician who died in 1986. He taught
religion, philosophy, literature, and art at the College for 27
years.
