A Taste of the Hudson Valley (#12545)
Explore the famed and elegant Culinary Institute of America located in a
picturesque former Jesuit seminary overlooking the river. While
there, enjoy a sumptuous meal prepared under the tutelage of world
class chefs. Farms and farmers markets are a huge part of the
Hudson Valley’s landscape. There will be a cooking class
emphasizing local produce and taught by a CIA graduate. We will
also learn about making cheese and enjoy a tasting at a local farm
and tour a local brewery. Cruise the resplendent Hudson and
enjoy the beautiful scenery.

The Roosevelts: Life and Legacy of Franklin and Eleanor

Examine the ideals and achievements of American history’s
foremost “power couple,” as well as the influence of the area they
called home. The only president elected to more than two terms,
Franklin Delano Roosevelt exerted a remarkable influence on
American government, economy and culture that is still felt today.
During presentations and field trips to the FDR
Presidential Library and Museum and the Eleanor Roosevelt
Center at Val-Kill, gain a deeper appreciation for the
lives of these two great Americans.
Exploring the Historic Hudson Valley (#20509)
The Hudson Valley has been called the landscape that defined
America. Join us to explore its nationally significant cultural and
historic heritage. Background lectures set the stage for field
trips to iconic sites that vary by week (see notes below), Gomez Mill House,
the oldest continuously occupied Jewish dwelling in North America;
Huguenot
Street in New Paltz, America’s oldest street, and more. Get
perspectives on the important role of the Hudson River and enjoy an
afternoon cruising the majestic Hudson to appreciate splendid
scenery from a variety of vistas. Special events listed with
appropriate weeks below.
July 21 - 26, 2013
This program date features a performance of the Hudson Valley
Shakespeare Festival performed on the banks of the Hudson and
includes a special session with actors. Prior to the performance we
will explore Boscobel, one of the finest examples of Federal
architecture in the country with grand collections and
inspirational views.

July 28 - August 2, 2013
This program date includes a field trip and luncheon at the
expansive gardens and grounds of The Mohonk (“Lake in the Sky”) Mountain House,
built in 1869. This amazing Victorian castle is a luxurious
forested retreat nestled in the Shawangunk Mountains.
