Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Overview

Mount Saint Mary College offers the following baccalaureate nursing programs:

  • Traditional day student: bachelor of science in nursing (4 years)*
  • RN to BSN (bachelor of science in nursing)
  • LPN to BSN (bachelor of science in nursing)
  • Accelerated evening and weekend (approx. 3 ½ years, variable)

*Traditional day students interested in majoring in nursing should submit applications no later than February 15 to be considered for admission to the program in the next fall semester. 

The Mount's nursing program has achieved accreditation from the prestigious Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). CCNE supports continuing growth and improvement of collegiate professional education and post-baccalaureate nurse residency programs.

Mount Saint Mary College is proud of its highly respected nursing programs. The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) granted accreditation of the baccalaureate degree program in nursing for the term of 10 years, extending to December 31, 2019.

The Mount offers both a traditional and accelerated adult degree nursing program. The accelerated program is an evening and weekend program that was developed especially for the adult learner. Classroom theory and content is taught by highly qualified and professional faculty.

Mount Saint Mary College has developed a state-of-the-art Nursing Learning Resource Center with computerized human patient simulators. This center provides an environment for hands on experiential learning to develop not only skills, but critical thinking, decision making, and team work. Students have clinical experiences in community hospitals and outside agencies offering many valuable and varied learning experiences.

The Mount also offers a master of science in nursing, as well as a post-master's certification program for the adult nurse practitioner and family nurse practitioner. 

Program requirements

If you are considering the nursing program, it's important that you have a clear understanding of the requirements and expectations. Please be aware that the Division of Nursing has identified a series of pre-existing requirements, summarized below, which must be satisfied with the attainment of at least a 2.75 GPA in order to be considered.

Additionally, due to potentially limited availability of space, a student’s overall academic performance may be considered in assessing their eligibility for the nursing program.

Specifically, students will be expected to complete the following:

  • BIO 1030/1040: Anatomy & Physiology I/II
  • CHM 1050/1060: Introduction to Chemistry I/II
  • PSY 1010 and SOC 1010
  • Cumulative GPA of at least 2.75
  • Completion of TEAS-ATI (Assessment Technologies Institute, LLC)
  • Pre-Nursing Computerized Testing (as scheduled by the Nursing Division at the completion of the above stated requirements)
