Step 1
Complete an online FAFSA
form You must complete this form to be considered
for financial aid. You will be prompted to create a personal
identification number (PIN) called a Federal Student Aid PIN, which
will help you get through the FAFSA more quickly. You will need
your PIN for all activity related to the FAFSA.
Step Two
If you have previously completed a FAFSA and received financial
aid before, locate your FAFSA PIN and visit this website to see how
much financial aid you may still be eligible for. You MUST complete
this form to be considered for financial aid.
FAFSA Information/Resources: MSMC Title IV school code
is 002778.
For FAFSA application purposes, your academic standing is
determined by the amount of credits you have earned. For example,
you are considered a freshman if you have earned 0 – 29 credits, a
sophomore if you have earned 30 – 59 credits, a junior if you have
earned 60 – 89 credits, and a senior if you have earned 90+
credits.
Step 3
See what kind of financial aid is available to you by visiting
Federal Student Aid website: www.studentaid.ed.gov
See how much financial aid you are eligible for by visiting the
New York State
Higher Education Services Corporation website. It will provide
you with information about how much money you can borrow, depending
on your current status (returning student or new student).

Step 4
Estimate how much your tuition will be and how much financial
aid you are eligible for. For example, if you are a first-year
student, you may be eligible for up to $5,500 per year in federal
loans. Tuition in the Adult Degree Completion program is $617 per
credit. One course is typically 3 credits, so your tuition will be
$1,851. This does not include an application fee, books, or any
other tuition related expenses so plan carefully. If you are
eligible for $5,500 per year, you might be able to take up to three
courses if you can cover additional costs out of pocket or with
other student loans. Knowing your financial aid eligibility and
what your tuitions costs are is responsibility.
Step 5
Complete a NYS TAP application if you are a qualified NYS
resident. Please review the requirements at www.hesc.com.
If you have completed all of these steps, you should know what
your financial aid package is very soon. The MSMC Financial Aid
office “packages” all financial aid applications every Friday if
you have completed all the paperwork. You may also contact the MSMC
Finance Office for additional payment options.
It is wise not to register for a class until you know what your
financial aid award will be. If you need additional information,
you may speak to a representative in Financial Aid at 845-569-3194
or by email at finaid@msmc.edu.
