Mount Saint Mary College’s Arthur O. Eve Higher Education
Opportunity Program (HEOP) is one of the most established and most
successful programs of its kind in New York.
Since 1969, the program has been integral to Mount Saint Mary
College’s commitment to access in higher education and its
philosophy toward educating the “whole” student in preparation for
a life of leadership and service.
HEOP at the Mount is a comprehensive academic support program that
provides its students with:
- Academic support
- Personal support and counseling
- Mentoring and opportunities for leadership development
- Financial counseling
- A shared sense of community
- The resources to make the most of their college experience
As an accepted MSMC HEOP student, you will be required to
complete the 5-week Summer Academic Institute during
the summer prior to your freshman year.
Mission
The principal mission of HEOP at Mount Saint Mary College is to
provide educational opportunity and support to traditionally
underserved students. These students, who have strong academic and
personal potential, would otherwise be excluded from higher
education due to circumstances of academic and economic
disadvantage. The mission of the program reflects and enriches the
mission of the college, and is jointly sponsored by the New York
State Higher Education Opportunity Program and the college.
Program Emphasis
HEOP emphasizes academic achievement, leadership development,
and service.
The HEOP office is located in Aquinas 304.
