More than 50 percent of the Mount’s 2,700 students volunteer
through service clubs or in the field as a requirement of
coursework.
Throughout the spring semester of 2011, students have been hard
at work organizing, fundraising, preparing and sending care
packages, and re-building a home. Here are some of their
projects.
Preparing care packages for our troops
Mount Saint Mary College’s chapter of Habitat for
Humanity acquired donations and organized Mount students to package
and mail annual care packages for the troops.Students prepared
about 120 packages, containing nonperishable snacks, playing cards,
and toiletries, on February 23, 2011 for U.S. troops stationed
overseas
Building a home with Habitat for Humanity
Instead of basking on the beach during spring break, 14 students
from Mount Saint Mary College’s Habitat for Humanity club traveled
to Cookeville, Tenn., where they helped build a home for a single
mom and her children. The students were aided by volunteers
from Habitat for Humanity and the sweat equity of the
homeowners-to-be.

Students visit Mount Sinai Medical Center in NYC to present
donation to Dubin Breast Center

Ten Mount student leaders presented Eva Dubin and the Mount Sinai
Medical Center with a check in the amount of $5,000 for the new
Dubin Breast Center, which will officially open on April 6,
2011.
During a tour of this extraordinary new center, Dr. Eva Dubin (a
breast cancer survivor herself) told us with great conviction that
"Our goal for the center is to bring together the best minds in
radiology, medical oncology, surgery, radiation oncology,
pathology, clinical genetics, psychosocial support and clinical
translational research under one roof, to provide patients with
seamless care and access to research studies."
Students met the Center's Director Dr. George Raptis (a
world-class medical oncologist) who told Harry Steinway, vice
president of student affairs, how impressed he was by the Mount
students' interest, commitment, and generosity in giving the
proceeds of their spring concert to this important project.
