Work-Study at the Mount: Mission
The mission of the Work-Study Employment program at Mount Saint
Mary College is to offer part-time employment to students through
on-campus and community service jobs. These positions support both
the educational goals of the College and its students, and help
students achieve both professional and personal development.
Virtually every department and office on campus employs
students, as student employees are an integral part of the daily
operation of Mount Saint Mary College. In addition to on-campus
jobs, students also have the opportunity to work with community
partners off-campus. Mount Saint Mary College and the community
count on our student employees, and this assistance contributes to
a student-friendly work environment.
Work-Study Employment collaborates with all departments,
community partners, and students, in order to provide a safe and
enjoyable work experience for all parties. Work-Study Employment
works directly with Payroll and Human Resources to comply with all
state and government regulations.
Work-Study Employment is part of the Financial Aid Office. To
contact them, please send an email to finaid@msmc.edu.
About Work-Study
What is Student Employment?
Student Employment is better known as federal work-study. The
student is given this award based on the FAFSA form.
How do I know if I qualify for Work-Study
Employment/FWS?
It will be on your award letter. Returning students can find this
by logging in to the web portal at my.msmc.edu (login and navigate to
the financial aid tab). If you are an incoming freshman, it will be
on your award letter, generally sent out the first week in
March.
How many hours am I allowed to
work?
You are allowed to work up to 10 hours a week.
How am I paid for my hours?
Every student on campus must fill out working papers and a direct
deposit form prior to working in a department on campus. The
student is then paid every two weeks (based on the payroll schedule
provided in the forms section) and the check will be directly
deposited into the student’s individual bank account.
How do I know which department I can work
in?
As the student, you have the opportunity to choose any number of
departments on campus that have work-study positions available, and
that are interesting to your own wants/needs. We will have an
online job fair during particular times of the year so that you can
pick and choose a couple of different departments that interest
you. A supervisor from that department will reach out to you with
an email to set up an interview and go over job description, hours
needed, and to see if you are a good fit for the job.
** The great thing about work-study is that it gives the student
a little bit of flexibility with hours, especially with course load
within certain programs, and during finals and midterm weeks when
studying is necessary for success.
** Also, all of our departments are either on campus, or very
close to campus, so students don’t have to worry about having a car
or getting a ride. In the event the student's department is off
campus, we will provide a shuttle to each location at various times
throughout the day.
Mount Saint Mary College employs students regardless of
race, color, sexual orientation, gender, age, national and ethnic
origin, veteran status, or disability. It does not discriminate on
the basis of race, color, sexual orientation, gender, age, national
and ethnic origin, veteran status, or disability in administration
of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and
loan programs, athletic programs and other school administered
programs.
