There are many federal and state resources made available to
college students, including grants, scholarships, work-study and
loans.
Types of college financial aid
Grants and scholarships are funds awarded based
primarily on financial need, but some may have academic achievement
qualifications. These funds are considered gift-aid and do not need
to be repaid. Work-study is a form of student
employment. Students receive the funds if they agree to work in a
campus office for an hourly rate. Generally, they are paid at
minimum wage and are paid on a bi-weekly basis.
Loans are funds that need to be repaid. Repayment
generally begins after the student has completed their degree
requirements.
Federal financial aid
Federal programs include: Pell Grant, Supplemental Educational
Opportunity Grant (SEOG), National TEACH Grant, Federal Work Study,
Federal Perkins Loan, Federal Nursing Loan, Federal Direct Stafford
Loan, and Federal Direct Parent Loan.
To qualify for any and all federal programs, students must
complete the Free Application for
Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year. For more details on
eligibility requirements and amounts of awards, please see the US
Department of Education Student Aid website.
Additionally, student must maintain academic progress as described
under Satisfactory Academic Progress.
You can fill out the FAFSA
form online. Please note that
our FAFSA priority deadline for freshmen is February 15.
Regular deadline is March 1.
