Newburgh, NY -

More than a dozen students from Mount Saint Mary College’s
Habitat for Humanity club broke a sweat in Huntsville, AL, building
a home for a family in need, instead of taking a break. Helping to
apply the roof (left to right): Jamie Reed, Catskill, NY, business;
Kristen Fede, Plainview, NY, psychology; and Amanda Pfister, Staten
Island, NY, biology. Receiving their work orders for the day from a
Habitat house leader (left to right): Amanda Pfister, Staten
Island, NY, biology; Jamie Reed, Catskill, NY, business; Jenna
Noll, Rockville Centre, NY, business; Alexander Mayer, Wappingers
Falls, NY, accounting; and Stephanie Moore, White Plains, NY,
undeclared. Student volunteers also included: Amanda Vagnone,
Valley Stream, NY, Alexandra Brady, East Northport, NY, and Karen
Borst, Levittown, NY, (honors program), mathematics/education;
Rebecca Basile, Lynbrook, NY, Erin Burpoe, Hewlett, NY, and Jessica
Burns, Schenectady, NY, nursing; and Lindsey Massaro, West Islip,
NY, information technology/education. More than 50 percent of the
men and women pursuing degrees at the Mount volunteer through
service clubs or in the field as a requirement of coursework.
Students, preparing for careers in education, health professions,
business, psychology, human services, and liberal arts, also
provide assistance to Big Brothers Big Sisters, and at schools,
hospitals, and clinics in the community. For these and other
efforts, Mount Saint Mary College was named to the federal
President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll.
