Chris Herren to speak at Mount

Former Boston Celtics and Denver Nuggets player Chris Herren will speak at Mount Saint Mary College about his legendary basketball career, his battle with drug addiction, and his recovery and new life.

The free event, part of the Mount’s “Culture of Life: Love Yourself, Be Yourself, Be the Example Campaign” will be held April 17 at 8 pm in Aquinas Hall Theatre, 330 Powell Avenue, Newburgh, NY. The public is invited.

Herren’s high school highlights included 2,073 career points, and he was selected as Gatorade New England Player of the Year, Boston Globe Massachusetts Player of the Year, and member of the 1994 McDonald’s All American team.

His substance use escalated during college and a stint in the NBA, until he was found unconscious in his car and arrested for heroin possession.

Herren has refocused his life to put sobriety and family above all else.

Since the summer of 2009, via Hoop Dreams with Chris Herren, Inc., he has trained more than 200 basketball players, including some of the top prospects in New England.
